Über das Weingut CVNE

CVNE (oder auch Cune) ist die Abkürzung für Compania Vinicola del Norte de Espana, eines der ältesten und angesehensten Weingüter Spaniens. Seit über 140 Jahren werden hier die feinsten Weine der Rioja erzeugt. Das Weingut wird inzwischen in der 5. Generation geführt und mit jedem Generationswechsel stieg die Qualität weiter, so dass CVNE nunmehr zu den besten Weingütern der Welt gezählt werden muss.

Die Weine des familieneigenen Weinguts Vina Real, dem königlichen Wein, liegen in der Rioja Alavesa, am Fuße der Sierra de Cantabria und werden seit 1920 erzeugt. Nicht nur die Weine sind eine Sinnesfreude... der zugehörige spektakuläre, kreisrunde Weinkeller ist ein einmaliges, architektonisches Meisterwerk. . Über den Wein Vina Real Gran Reserva 2014

Die Gran Reserva des Vina Real ist einer der größten Weine Spaniens und der mit dem '59er Jahrgang eine der ganz wenigen 100-Punkte Bewerungen von Parker ergattern konnte. Die Gran Reserva wird nur in den allerbesten Jahren erzeugt und besticht durch eine samtige Ausgewogenheit, die für die Spitzengewächse der Rioja so typisch ist.

No 2013 was produced, as it was a very challenging year in Haro. So, from the 2012 I tasted last time, we jumped to the 2014 Imperial Gran Reserva, an icon among classical Rioja. The grapes for this blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo were picked during the first half of October at a low 13.5% alcohol and were fermented in small oak vats followed by malolactic in concrete and two years in barrel. The bottles are kept for at least 36 months before they are released. As the Imperial Reserva, the style of this wine has to be preserved (they can innovate in the new Asúa range). There is a developed and subtle nose reminiscent of petrol (is it mineral?), hints of iodine and sweet spices. The palate is powerful and still a little tannic, as the wine was released even earlier because they skipped one vintage. Serious, austere, faithful to its character. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2017.

CVNE are working to produce white wines in the Reserva and Gran Reserva, an exciting development for the future, but we already have the first example here, a 2018 Cune Blanco Reserva. They are also refocusing on the Real de Asúa range, with interesting developments, which mean completely new wines. And the vineyard work doesn't stop. They have purchased and planted 15 new hectares in the village of Cellorigo in the Montes Obarenes, certainly a new hotspot for the development of fresher wines. They planted those hectares in terraces at 750 meters above sea level, a little in the style they have done in Valdeorras in their Virgen del Galir project. They are also involved in the recovery of the Davalillo Castle in San Asensio and are replanting the surroundings (close to seven hectares) to make a wine there. So, quite exciting and dynamic times at one of the classical Rioja wineries...
